I Can’t Stop Editing The Collection…

…because I’m close to ferreting through all the unrated songs added at the beginning of the project. Five years ago I started my iPod collection by burning all worthy songs from my CD collection. Sometimes I would add entire greatest hits compilations or career retrospectives, and have methodically pruned the collection since. I’m getting close to the first complete run through, and see the finish line.

I started with a lot of jazz standards by famous interpreters like Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, not to mention a wide variety of jazz compilations. Using my reference books plus the great website Jazz Standards (www.jazzstandards.com), I would then research the old songs looking for more interesting and well regarded versions. It’s a time consuming process, but diversifies the collection.

I must have spent 15-20 hours this week rating songs and reviewing new recruits. The breakdown by rating now looks as follows:

8257 songs total:

101 songs rated 5 stars
919 songs rated 4 stars
2600 songs rated 3 stars
3424 songs rated 2 stars
1098 songs rated 1 star
115 songs unrated (a few are rated 0 stars)
