She Loved Me Like A Rock

Paul Simon’s “Loves Me Like A Rock” has always been a fine song to me, a solid effort that I would rate two or three stars depending on my mood. Last year I happened upon a tribute program to Paul Simon, where various artists paid tribute to the great songwriter. Here is a clip of Paul Simon with the house band, gospel group The Dixie Hummingbirds, and the great Stevie Wonder on piano and vocals:

The songs becomes less interesting around the 4:00 mark, but there’s no higher ground to achieve, having reached the peak of excitement. In this rendition, the message of a mother’s love comes through much stronger. So let me tell you about my mama…

The lovely Nadine...
Sacrificed some of her hopes and dreams...
Sacrificed some of her hopes and dreams...
To marry and raise two children...
To marry and raise two children...
So our lives could be wonderful.
So our lives could be wonderful.
